About us


The International Sustainable Development Research Institute is a public policy research centre that has a long history of conducting cutting-edge research into sustainable development.  The mandate of the ISDRC is to promote, foster, reinforce, and facilitate efforts at achieving sustainable development in the African region for the benefit of present and future generations.  The ISDRC is positioned to play a leadership role in capacity building, and in improving the coordination of environmental and development activities in the region. The development of the capacity of African people and institutions to manage the environment is a high priority. Its work is multidisciplinary and collaborative in nature and requires the input, collaboration and cooperation of experts drawn from several disciplines in various universities in Africa as well as collaborators and partners from similar institutions. It disseminates the results of its work by publication in print and the Internet as well as by face to face and group communication and innovative use of media

  •   To conduct policy advice, policy oriented research and advocacy from a broad multi-disciplinary perspective.
  • To promote the implementation of policies, programs, laws and regulations based on sustainable development.
  •  To disseminate research findings and public education through the media, conferences, seminars, lectures, publications and curricula development.
  •  To contribute to building up national research capacity and infrastructure.

  •  To serve as a source of expertise and advisory services for the government, private sector, and non-governmental initiatives supporting the implementation of African's environment and development agenda.

  •  To contribute to strengthening the social and physical infrastructure for research in Africa.
  •  To initiate, establish and participate in collaborative advocacy and other activities with like-minded organizations in and outside the continent.
